Roll Racing, Drag Racing, Car Show Among Highlights of Lifestyle Event~ Street Car Takeover, a lifestyle event featuring traditional drag racing, roll racing and a massive car-and truck-show, returns this week to US 131 Motorsports Park where it will serve up a little bit of everything for those whose cars are just part of the family.

It’s the world’s fastest street cars on Michigan’s fastest track.  But don’t make the mistake of showing up with a dragster.  On this weekend, doors, fenders and headlights required, air conditioning optional.  This is where street cars go to party.

All you need to know is that the series is endorsed by YouTube phenom and internet sensation Cleetus McFarland who, using his real-life alias, Garrett Mitchell, is known to race a little bit himself.  In fact, he is among the series’ point leaders in two different classes: Street Racer Wild and Monster Clutch Stick Shift.

The action begins on Friday with roll racing, one of the newest variations on traditional concept.  It’s drag racing on-the-go.  Instead of starting from a dead stop, roll racers start at 40 miles per hour just beyond the standard Christmas Tree and race to the quarter mile.  There are speed targets that cannot be exceeded in Extreme Street, Mild Street and Daily Street.  There is no speed limit, however, in the featured King of the Bakery class.

An 11 am qualifying session will establish the roll racing pairings for eliminations that begin at 1:30 pm and run to conclusion.

The track reverts to a more standardized drag racing format at 7 pm with qualifying in the Street Racer and Women on Wheels classes followed by the first of two weekend Small Tire events in which times and speeds will be neither posted nor announced.

Show cars share center stage with race cars on Saturday with car-and-truck show judging underway at 11 am and Top 10 awards presented at 5 pm.  The drag racing program will open with qualifying and testing from 12 noon until 3 pm and conclude with eliminations immediately thereafter in a host of categories including Stick Shift, Extreme Street (10.00 Index), Daily Driver (12.00 Index), Front Wheel Drive, Heavyweight, Street Racer, Small Tire and Women on Wheels.

Adult tickets purchased at the gate are $25 daily although a $5 discount is available on advance purchases.  Children 12 and under are free when accompanied by a ticketed adult.  A limited number of VIP pit parking spots are available for $10.
