Ohio Bracket Racer Comes Back from Red Light to Win Big at US 131
The agony of a Friday foul start that denied him a shot at $50,000 gave way to the ecstasy of Saturday success for “Nasty Nick” Hastings, the reigning NHRA Summit Super Series Sportsman champion, whose .017 package secured the biggest share of the purse posted at the inaugural FTI Performance Summer Shootout at US 131 Motorsports Park.
Hastings drove his 1983 Ford Mustang past the dragster of fellow Ohioan Gene Hampshire, Thursday’s winner of the High Roller race, in the Door Car-Dragster finale to get the coveted $100,000 check. The Summer Shootout was to conclude on Sunday with a final $50,000-to-win race.
Other Saturday winners were Seth Phillips of Montpelier, VA, and Wes May of Greenwood, IN, who prevailed in the No Box and High Roller races, respectively.
