THE MORE, THE MERRIER AT US 131’S BOTTOM BULB BASH

Seventh Annual Event Also Features Master, Advanced and Beginner Jr. Dragsters

MARTIN, Mich. – What do you give drag racers who’ve lost their fan base to the COVID-19 pandemic and Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s “no spectators allowed” order?

Well, if you’re the management of US 131 Motorsport Park, you continue to provide a safe, socially distant and rules-compliant environment for those who still are compelled to feed their need for speed, you throw in a free Friday night pizza party and, to compensate for the lack of butts on the boards, you sweeten the payout.

At this week’s seventh annual Bottom Bulb Bash and Jr. Dragster Bonanza, there may be no fans in the stands, but there’ll be an extra 2500 Benjamins up for grabs in the Saturday night feature if at least 200 cars roll to the starting line for the first round.

That’s right.  While the event normally would pay $5,000 to the Bottom Bulb winner on each of the three days, it’ll pay time-and-a-half on Saturday if the aforementioned criteria is met.  That’s $7,500 for 10 rounds of bracket racing.  Not a bad day’s work, with or without applause.

There also are incentives for Jr. Dragster drivers whose weekend begins with an all-run warmup race on Friday followed on Saturday and Sunday by separate shootouts crowning champions in three different categories (Master, Advanced and Beginner).

In addition to the cash purse, including $500 to the winners in both Master and Advanced Jr. Dragster classes, the Saturday and Sunday races will pay points toward track championships in the Lane Automotive Bracket Series.  But there’s more.  On Saturday, in addition to the regular program, there’ll be an all-run bonus event for Jr. racers utilizing the standard 7.90, 8.90 and 11.90 Index targets.

Gates open daily at 8 a.m., on track at 9, two time runs on Friday, one time trial on Saturday and right into elimination on Sunday (Jr Dragster will get one time run).  Bottom Bulb racer entry fee is $200 for all three days; $150 for Saturday or Sunday only.  Jr. Dragster entry is $75 for the weekend, $50 for any single day
Saturday or Sunday plus $20 for the Saturday night Index race.  Crew passes are $40 for four days including Thursday’s test-and-tune, $35 for Friday, Saturday and Sunday or $15 for a single day.
