Lowe, Hannen, Fisher, Serra Stick Around for Success at US 131 Motorsports Park

MARTIN, Mich. – Although a host of racers left US 131 Motorsports Park amidst heavy rain on Saturday, for those who stayed, Sunday paid big dividends at the 34th Woody’s Super Sled Shootout in which Sterling’s Keith Culley swept Pro Stock 800, Chesaning’s Jeremy Hannen and Coldwater’s Dan Fisher both set world records and Commerce Township’s Todd Serra won the Woody’s Challenge Cup for the fourth time.

After losing to Rob Lowe of Bradford, Ontario, in a Saturday Outlaw final that was run early Sunday, Hannen sped to a world record of 4.27 seconds at 168 miles per hour on the Brad Walker/Connelly Racing on the way to evening the score in Sunday’s regularly schedule race.

Astride Scott Laskowski’s Dynamite Racing sled, Fisher dipped to 4.68 seconds at 144 mph Sunday before “slowing” to 4.82 in a final round victory that denied Serra a Pro Mod sweep.  Rounding out the slate of Sunday winners was Randy Bernstein of Evansville, Wis., who claimed the bracket championship.

Among the other Sunday winners was Randy Bernstein of Evansville, Wis., who won the bracket championship after reaching the semifinals of Saturday’s rained0out Pro Index race in which he and three others (multi-time Super Sled winner Jeff Jaquish of Racine, Wis., Cyle Lesko of Millington and Thommy Rosely of Rockford) opted to split the purse.

That also was the decision made by the seven who remained in contention in the Saturday bracket sled class and the 10 who had not yet been eliminated in Jr. Dragster.  In Saturday’s Pro ET Motorcycle class, Mark Musselman of Wawaka, Ind., and Thad Neeld of St. Paris, Ohio, split the winner and runner-up money after dispatching Stacy Musselman and Monroe’s Joe Novak in the semifinals.

After winning the delayed Saturday Pro Stock title on Sunday morning, Culley completed the sweep by besting Wayland’s Lisa Flannery in Saturday’s regularly scheduled event.  After racing through the course in 5.437 seconds to beat Belding’s Brian Pretzel Saturday morning, he improved to 5.375 in winning in the afternoon.

Hannen was no-timed in the first Outlaw final in which Lowe sped to victory at a pedestrian 113 miles per hour.  In the rematch, though, Hannen’s 4.324 at 166.60 mph outran Lowe’s 4.453 at 160.94 mph.

Sunday’s Jr. Dragster title went to Howell’s Jacob Vile while the Pro and Street ET motorcycle money went to Jeff Green of Grand Haven and Chance Morrison of Eaton Rapids, respectively.
