Racers from Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana Battle in IHRA Summit Series Finale~
Defending champion US 131 Motorsports Park plays host to teams of ET racers from tracks representing three states this week with the return to Michigan’s Fastest Track of the IHRA’s season-ending Thunder Division Summit Team Finals.
Although it had no individual champions a year ago, US 131’s depth and balance allowed it to outpoint Muncie, Ind., Dragstrip and the Mid-Michigan Motorplex to win the team title.
Racing in this year’s event begins with open time trials and four Gamblers’ races on Friday and ramps up Saturday with the Team Captains’ Race, another set of Gamblers races and the Main Event, which begins immediately following the first round of Gamblers’ competition at approximately 11 a.m.
The weekend concludes Sunday with more Gamblers’ racing and an IHRA hosted Track Operators Meeting.
The Main Event will crown individual champions in Top ET, Modified ET, Sportsman and Jr. Dragster classes with $2,500 in cash, an IHRA Ironman trophy and a gold card to the winners in the two primary categories, $1,000 plus the trophy and card to the Sportsman champion and $400 and bonuses to the Jr. Dragster winner. Friday and Saturday Gamblers races in Box and No Box classes will pay $2,000 to win.
General admission spectator tickets are $20 on Saturday. Crew any day is $40, children ages 6-12 $10, and $5 on Saturday only. Children under age six are free with a ticketed adult.
IHRA officials also will recognize the Best Appearing and Best Engineered cars in the full-bodied, open-bodied and Jr. Dragster classes and will present a Best Appearing Team award and a Best Team Spirit Award.
In addition to US 131, Muncie and Mid-Michigan, participating tracks are U.S. 41 Dragway in Morocco, IN, Marion County Dragway in LaRue, Ohio, Bunker Hill, IN, Dragway, The Ubly Dragway, and Lapeer Dragway.
The track will be open for registration and early parking starting at 11 am on Thursday. Thereafter, gates will open at 8 am daily. Saturday before round one there will be a non-denominational chapel service.
