MARTIN, Mich. – Diversity will be the underlying theme Saturday and Sunday when US 131 Motorsports Park plays host to the fifth annual Import vs. Domestic Shootout featuring some of the most creative and bizarre show-and-go vehicles on the planet including the Wankel rotary engine-powered Mazda RX8 campaigned by Aiden Racing and the eccentric 1981 rear-wheel drive Toyota Starlet fielded by Milwaukee-based Geronimo Racing.

Judging on Saturday will determine the “best of” in an all-comers car and truck show although the bulk of the action both days will occur on the US 131 drag strip at both the quarter mile and eighth mile distances.

In addition to a pair of qualifying rounds for Sunday’s Quick 8 ($300 entry) and Quick 16 ($200 entry) events, the Saturday program will include an all run Bracket class (run separate until one then combined),a Jr. Dragster race, a no time, winner-take-all small tire shootout at the eighth mile distance (with a $100 entry), a music challenge and a post-race party featuring the band Borracho Mao.

On Sunday, the Quick 8 will race for a $10,000 purse; the Quick 16 for $5,000.  There will be another open bracket race featuring US 131’s traditional Top ET and Modified racers (on the quarter mile for a $1,600 purse), Jr Dragsters and a no time, winner-take-all, small tire and big tire race on the eighth mile (with a $250 entry).

Essentially, it’ll be a weekend battle between US 131’s American-made regulars and the quickest and fastest machines from the heavily Puerto Rican and Asian-influenced import scene including heavily-modified Honda Civics, Subaru Legacys, Acura RSXs, Lexus ISFs, Infinity Q50s and perhaps even a turbo, all-wheel drive Subaru WRX or two.

As an added bonus, there will be daily races featuring the early model Plymouths, Dodges, Chevrolets, Fords and Pontiacs of the Great Lakes Stock and Super Stock Association.

Admission each day is $20 with children 12 and under free when accompanied by a ticketed adult.  Gates open at 8 a.m. with first cars down the track at 10 a.m.  Sponsors include Liberty’s Gears, Michigan Critical Power, Garbarino Construction, Ridge and Kramer Auto Parts, Miracle Image Auto Detailing, Auto Body Xperts, Engine Pro, A Zon DeFiebre and Affordable Limousine and Party Bus.
