IT’S ANOTHER BIG WEEK FOR RACING’S HAGAR FAMILY
Kyle Wanamaker Also Impressive in Lane Automotive Bracket Series Opener
In last week’s Lane Automotive Bracket Series opener at US 131 Motorsports Park, Ron Hagar gave notice that if son Donnie is going to win another Street ET points championship – as he did in 2015 and 2017, he’s first going to have to beat the old man.
The elder Hagar won the Street ET title on Saturday and on Sunday was runner-up to Kyle Wanamaker. Both drivers won 10 rounds over the course of the weekend but, with three double-0 lights and weekend reaction time average of .031 (.010 on Saturday), Ron narrowly got the nod as Gary Hunt’s initial US 131 Racer of the Week for 2018.
An auto tech in Clark Lake, Hagar drives his venerable Oldsmobile Starfire in both the Modified and Street divisions and is bidding this year to extend the family’s dominance in Street ET where either father or son has won the last three titles.
Congratulations, Ron, from Gary Hunt, Aeroquip and everyone at US 131 Motorsports Park.
ABOUT GARY HUNT
Gary Hunt is in his eleventh season as the track announcer at US 131 Motorsports Park, a track on which he used to race in the brackets and Stock Eliminator. His experience as a race car driver (he won seven points championships) has served him well behind the mike and while he often misses the thrill of competition, his “desk job” is not without its benefits. “It’s given me the best seat in the house, which is always climate controlled,” he said. “I never break any parts, don’t have to wait in line and I leave with a little bit of money every week.”
