Drag Race, Swap Meet, Vender Midway, Separate Car and Truck Show Awards
Muscle car mania returns this Sunday, October 8 to US 131 Motorsports Park where Cobra Jet Ford Mustangs will duel with Hellcat Dodge Challengers in the annual “Battle of the Brands,” a combo program that incorporates the best elements of the Mega Mopar Series and the Fun Ford Weekend Series.
It’s a showcase for the top-performing and best-appearing vehicles produced in Dearborn and Auburn Hills over the last 100 years including Thunderbirds, Road Runners, Barracudas and Crown Vicks.
Separate car and truck shows, a swap meet, vendor midway and the featured “King of the Track” Ford versus Mopar bracket showdown are the primary attractions of the one-day celebration of two of America’s most iconic car brands.
On the track, Fords and Mopars will race separately in a combined box/no box category, contested on the 1/8th mile, to reduce their individual fields to eight cars or less. Those cars, eight Fords and eight Mopars, then will race amongst themselves to determine the 2017 “King of the Track” and the distribution of a purse that will pay $1,200 to the winner. A Street Combo ET champion, contested on the 1/4 mile, also will be crowned with a $250 prize for the overall winner.
Gates open Sunday at 8 a.m. with time trials at 9 a.m. Adult admission is $15 with children 12 and under free when accompanied by a ticketed adult. Box/no box entry is $50, Street is $25, swap meet which includes one person is $35, car show entry includes driver is $35 and includes one event t-shirt.
The Mopar car show will feature everything from PT Cruisers to Barracudas to Vipers, Dakotas to Ram trucks with 200s and 300s, Chargers, Avengers, Sebrings, Colts, Dusters, Neons and New Yorkers thrown in for good measure.
On the Ford side, the focus will be on the most immaculate Mustangs, Fairlanes, Torinos, Galaxies, LTDs, Fiestas, Escorts, Fusions, Flexes, Edges and Mavericks in the Great Lakes area. “Best of” awards will be presented at 2 p.m.
